MTS Dvorana
Description MTS Dvorana
The Hall of the House of Trade Unions was ceremonially opened on June 13, 1957, on the foundations of a building constructed between 1947 and 1955, based on the design of architect Branko Petričić. From that year until today, the House of Trade Unions has hosted, and continues to host, numerous cultural events of significance for Belgrade, including the very first FEST back in 1971.
In April 2013, the Government of Serbia declared the entire House of Trade Unions building a cultural monument in Belgrade.
The reconstruction of the Hall of the House of Trade Unions began in June 2017, and the investment in the renovation, including equipment, amounted to over 4.5 million euros.
The mts Hall was ceremonially opened on April 27 with a performance by classical and electronic music pianist Francesco Tristano and the RTS Symphony Orchestra, led by maestro Bojan Suđić.
mts Hall, built on the foundations of global film history as well as musical heritage and painted with the many colors of domestic art, resumed its life in April 2018—ready for a new generation to step onto its stage, as well as witnesses of better times. It is a place where legends such as Louis Armstrong, B.B. King, and Ella Fitzgerald once performed, alongside local greats like Đorđe Marjanović, Olivera Katarina, and the folk music icon Miroslav Ilić, who held a total of 29 concerts there, and the unmatched record of 33 consecutive concerts by Lepa Brena.
As the birthplace of FEST, the Hall of the House of Trade Unions also welcomed famous directors and great film authors in 1971, such as Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luis Buñuel, and Miloš Forman. They, along with many other renowned figures from different fields, left their mark, providing both an emotional and cultural legacy for future generations and for today’s mts Hall, which proudly stands on these deeply rooted foundations.
